ARGO-YBJ is devoted to study astrophysical gamma ray sources and cosmic rays. Its main fields of research are:
- Gamma ray astronomy at energy E > 300 GeV: study of galactic sources (Supernova remnants, plerions, pulsars, diffuse emission from the galactic plane) and extragalactic sources (Active Galactic Nuclei)
- Gamma Ray Bursts at energy > 10 GeV
- Spectrum of cosmic rays at energy E > 1 TeV
- Measurement of the ratio of proton-antiproton in cosmic rays using the Moon shadow
- Sun and heliosphere physics

The Torino group is mainly involved in the search for gamma ray sources and Gamma Ray Bursts.
