The CNAO special project is the result of a partnership between INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare) and CNAO foundation, which has been constituted to built the Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica, now in advanced state of construction in Pavia, Italy. When ultimated, this centre will constitute a hospital where it will be possible to treat patients affected by tumor using the principles of hadrontherapy.
The Torino group has always had an important role in the CNAO project. Our contributes to the centre will be:
1) the construction of the Beam Monitor System (BMS), which is the ensemble of detectors that will be positioned in the final part of particles' path, near the patient, and will measure beam intensity, profile and direction;
2) the development of the Beam Delivery Control System (BDCS), which is the complex hardware and software system responsible of the administration of beam delivery and of the coordination of BMS with scansion magnets.
