Compared to other experiments of INFN group V, the ENVIRAD-SPLASH experiment is anomalous, because its principal aim is the diffusion of scientific knowledge in secondary schools, with particular attention to the problem of natural background radioactivity. This aim is obtained through the development of ionizing radiation detectors which can be used in a secondary school and, in general, of didactical materials on radioactivity

Attività di ricerca:

- activities in secondary schools: they have been carried on since many years; they started with the projects promoted by the *Ce*nter of *Di*dactical *Se*rvices (CeSeDi) of the Torino Province and continued with the "Scientific Degrees Project (PLS)". An example is the activity "An experiment to loan", in which simple Geiger detectors are given in use to a secondary school for one week ( the map of the picture shows the distribution on the territory of the schools which participated to the project);

- experiments on radiations performed in the residential stage in the Mompellato "CasAlpina" (Susa valley)/ regarding measures of electromagnetic and ionizing radiations at high altitudes;

- various activities in collaboration with secondary school teachers, with two new radiation detectors partially acquired in 2006 with INFN funds (on this part of the project two master degree theses were done);

- study and experimentation of new radiation detectors suitable for use in secondary schools
