Figure 1
The so called "third cone" has two functions:
1) support of the FMD Si-1
2) first-support of the beam pipe.
The following figure (from slide #3 of this file , by S. Maridor, dated Dec. 1, 2003) shows the position of the 3rd cone together with its links with: SPD and ITS cones, FMD1 and beam-pipe.

This picture is based on the following, obsolete, drawing of the third cone (original file by L.Simonetti, dated Sep. 25, 2002) ....

... and on the following drawing of the central beam pipe (original file here , dated Nov. 28, 2002; the up-to-date drawing of the beam pipe can be found here).

Figure 2
The subset of the installation sequence pertaining the third cone is summarized here (dated March 2003).

Figure 3
The present drawing of the third cone at RB26 (in construction at NBI) is shown in the following picture (original files: here for .dxf or here for .dwg; from Borge Nielsen, dated March 31, 2004).

Figure 4
Finite element calculations have been performed. They show displacements smaller than 50 μm (from this file, by Borge Nielsen, dated March 17, 2004)

Figure 5
The present positioning of the third cone at RB26, together with one of the four devices that apply a tension of 10 DaN...40 DaN to the wires supporting the beam pipe (ref.), is sketched in the following picture.
